Iceland Is Melting

Imperial Grantham College studied the impact of high temperatures on ecosystems adapted to cold climates. They say adaptation to very cold climates makes them sensitive to temperature shifts, and heat disrupts their delicate balance with consequences to the ecosystem and communities. I wonder if that is the case.

According to the Icelandic Met Office:

Quote LeftWhile few impacts have been reported, numerous studies demonstrate that unusually high temperatures early in the year can have significant impacts on local ecosystems. These ecosystems, adapted to very cold climates, are sensitive to temperature shifts, and disruptions to their delicate balance can lead to consequences not only for the ecosystems themselves, but also for the communities that depend on them.

It’s strange that actual impacts had not been reported. The weather was warmer but Climate Change it was not.

The true reason for concern is explained by this article by the pavement industry. In short in Iceland, “bituminous bleeding in the roads created dangerous conditions for drivers.

In any case, the “heat wave” didn’t last. Iceland temperatures returned to normal by July 11, 2025
